The original:

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Directed by:

Edgar Wright (Spaced, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim Verses the World, Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho)

Starring:

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Dylan Moran, Penelope Wilton, Bill Nighy, Peter Serafinowicz, Rafe Spall

What’s it about?

Horror and comedy merge seamlessly as a very funny comedy and truly dark zombie tale combine to create an instant, modern classic.

Shaun (Pegg) is going no-where. His job is dead-end and his relationship is just dead. He has a waster best friend, a hostile step-father and an irate flatmate. Some people need a push to self-improve. Shaun needs a zombie apocalypse.

With writing tighter than an arthritic miser’s fist, direction so stylish GQ ran a double issue, and acting comedic, dramatic, athletic and heart-breaking, often within the same scene.

Shaun of the Dead brings pathos and hysterics to London.  Bite, brains and shambolic shuffling.  And that’s just the hero.

“You’ve got red on you.”

“As Mr Sloan always says, ‘There is no ‘I’ in team, but there is an ‘I’ in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team.’ …I don’t know what he’s talking about.”

The pitch: "Come up with a direct sequel to the classic zom-rom-com Shaun of the Dead."
